Genekits Make-Your-Own Guide

So, you want to make your own Genekit? This guide will go over everything you need to know to create a Genekit all your own!

Genekit MYO Items

In order to make a Genekit of your own, you will first need one of our MYO items. There are a variety of different MYO items that exist which come with different trait allowances - some are easier to come by than others.

Welcome MYO

This is the MYO you get in your welcome package! This MYO is account-bound so you are unable to trade it to another user; it is a welcome gift just for you! It allows you to create a Genekit with all standard traits. Genekits made with this type of MYO will remain with their initial owner for an entire year before they are able to be gifted/traded/sold.

Standard MYO

This item will allow you to make a Genekit with all standard traits. It is the most common MYO you can obtain, and is often found in our Shops!

Fabled MYO

A rarer form of MYO, this item is typically given out during events, or as a rarer drop from certain prompts. This item allows you to create a Genekit with up to 3 Fabled traits

Afflicted MYO

A rarer form of MYO, this item is typically given out during events, or as a rarer drop from certain prompts. This item allows you to create a Genekit with up to 3 Afflicted traits

Diamond MYO

These are the rarest MYOs, given to staff as part of their pay for all of the hard work they do. Occasionally, Diamond MYOs will also be given out to the community for special events. This item allows you to create a Genekit with up to 7 Fabled or Afflicted traits.

Nursery MYO

This MYO allows you to create a Genekit that is the child of one or more other existing Genekits. The traits for this Genekit will be based on those of the parent/s, and these traits are predetermined for you. For more information on Nursery MYOs, please see the NMYO guide

Converting MYO Items to MYO Slots

Now that you have one of our various MYO Items, here is how you can turn it into a Genekit of your very own! In order to convert your MYO Item to a MYO Slot, follow the steps below!

  1. Locate the MYO Item in your inventory, and click on it.
  2. In the resulting pop-up, there will be a little check box. Click on that, and then open the “Use Slot” option, and click the “Open” button.
  3. You can now find your new MYO Slot under your MYO Slots page.

This MYO Slot will remain attached to your account until it is used, or (as long as the slot allows) until you gift/trade/sell it. To see if your MYO slot allows for trades, simply click on the slot from the MYO slots tab and look at the 'Stats' section, as this will give you an indication of whether you are able to or not.

Make-Your-Own Rules

While we are very excited to see everyone’s creativity and beautiful new Genekits, in order to make sure everything goes smoothly, we do have a few rules that need to be followed in order to have your new Genekit officially approved. Failure to follow these rules will result in your design submission being cancelled so that you can make the necessary adjustments. If we have to cancel your MYO submission, we will let you know what needs to be changed in the cancellation notes so that you can make the needed updates.

  1. MYOs can be made on either our Official Base, or on custom lines.
  2. Design theft is not tolerated in the slightest.
  3. All MYOs cannot be based on the following:
  • Another person’s Genekit
  • An existing character owned by someone else
  • Characters and other Intellectual Property protected by copyright.
    • You may take inspiration from aspects of copyrighted characters for your MYO designs,  however, as a general rule of thumb, if we can tell it's the character, they will be declined.
    • The same rules apply other visuals from media (depictions of fictional languages (eg, Lord of the Rings Elvish languages, circular Gallifreyan), copyrighted symbols (e.g. Harry Potter’s deathly hallows, Star Wars’ Rebel Alliance symbol)
  • A character you own but do not have the artists consent to bring into the species (unless part of a closed species where the TOS allows alt or multiple forma)
  • A character that is part of another site/closed-species that you do not have the consent of the site owner/species owner to bring into the species.
MYO designs that are deemed to be offensive/disrespectful to an individual/group that goes against our Terms of Service will be denied.  Designs also cannot contain words in languages other than English - this is for moderation purposes to ensure nothing disrespectful is included in the design.
  • Runes and symbols are eligible for use, however. If this is abused to be offensive, the Genekit will be asked to be redesigned.
Traits applied to the MYO must reflect the allowances of the items/slot used in their submission.
  • If we believe how you have designed your Genekit to resemble different traits to what is listed, the MYO will be declined with alteration requirements. They will not be accepted unless met or if you provide a trait item to cover the traits indicated by the way they are drawn.
Initial refs for approval must be un- or minimally shaded, and free of items. After the initial approval, you can add accessories and items to your Genekit’s ref. All MYOs can have physical disabilities, ailments, and amputated limbs should you wish to do so, however these cannot be done for aesthetic purposes. You must be respectful of the disability you portray. These traits are not able to be removed without the appropriate items, so be sure this is something you want to add to your Genekit before proceeding. You are able to make both official and unofficial breeding using MYOs, but you MUST have permission from all parties before doing so.
  • Unofficial breedings can be created with any of the general MYO Items. Parent designs will be noted for posterity.
  • Official breedings can only be created using NMYO Items. NMYOs have additional rules and guidelines to follow, which can be found on our NMYO guide.
Designs that existed outside of Genekits prior to being brought into the species will still follow the TOS of the original artist/species as applicable. All forms of the design will be linked on the Genekit’s masterlist entry. If it comes out after a design has been approved that our TOS or these rules have been violated, we will hide the affected Genekit/s from public view until they can be redesigned and/or appropriate disciplinary action has been taken. Depending on the scenario, we may simply require a redesign. In other situations, the Genekit may be voided, and bans issued.

Difference between Inspired-by and Based-on Designs.

- INSERT VISUAL GUIDE -

While we do allow designs that are inspired by existing IPs, in order to avoid issues with copyright, we do not allow designs that are based on existing IPs.

Things like the below may force us reject a design being submitted for approval:

  • Colour picking from references of existing IPs
  • Having the design closely mimic the clothing of an existing IP
  • Traits applied to the design meant to closely mimic iconic shapes from existing IPs (armour, crowns, etc.)

For inspired-by designs, you can still use a colour palette inspired by the existing IP, just not one specifically tailored to mimic the existing character. You can also use similar shapes and motifs, as long as there is enough original content to show that these two characters are unique. The rule of thumb is if we can tell who or what the design is meant to be based off of, we will likely ask for it to be redesigned to be further from the existing IP.

Submitting your MYO

Alright! So now you have read all the rules, obtained our MYO Slot, and designed your Genekit! Now to get them approved, follow the steps below!

  1. First, click on the slot you want to use in your MYO slots tab.
  2. Then, click on submit MYO Design, followed by clicking the Create Request button.
  3. From there, fill out all the tabs that are required.
    • Comments: Here you should mention things like whether the design is part of another species or has any alt forms and link to any appropriate archive pages (mandatory), add any evidence/proof you think we may need to accept the design (permission from the designer/applicable parties to bring in the design, etc.), provide links to the parents if this is an unofficial breeding, as well as proof of allowance for the unofficial breeding. If you are adding a trait from an uncommon animal who has unique looking traits, you can let us know in the comments what the animal is to make the approval process easier.
    • Masterlist Image: Here you must upload the image you wish to have displayed on their masterlist. You must also supply the name of their designer and an artist if applicable, including if that person is you. (designer being who made the design, artist being who made this particular ref)
    • Add Ons: Here, if you are using any items for your MYO you must add them here. You may leave blank if you do not have anything to add here.
    • Traits: Here you must input any traits the Kiamara will gain, including any standard ones you have added by editing the lines. If you have added items that increase the level of your slot (i.e. you have a standard slot, but have added items for a Non-Mammalian or higher trait)  the staff member approving your MYO will upgrade the level manually for you after the fact.

             4. Once completed, simply click "Submit Request" and voila, you are all set! Our staff has a maximum of a week wait period for MYOs to                                                               be approved, however you will be notified on your account if the submission has been accepted/cancelled/declined!
