Paige sat in the cafe with a group of friends. They were in a far corner away from everyone else. They chattered quietly, between snacking and sipping their drinks. She finished chewing a bite of her peanut butter brownie and washed it down with a sip of her latte. Her and her friends liked to have joke contests each time they got together. She had been working hard to think up a joke all week. “Okay, who wants to be the first to tell their joke?” A friend asked with a smirk. “1, 2, 3 not it!” Another friend chimed in, each of them putting a finger to their nose. Paige was the last to touch her nose, meaning she’d be the first to tell her joke. She hated being first, it was always so awkward and she always felt the first joke was never the funniest. She sighed and smiled at her friends.” Alright then, What’s the difference between cats and a comma?” She asked, tilting her head to the side. Her friends stared at her, waiting to hear the answer. She took a deep breath “Cats have claws at the end of their paws and commas are a pause at the end of a clause.” She smiled as her friends let out little giggles and a chuckle here and there. She laughed, overly happy that she actually got a reaction. Her friends rarely thought her jokes were funny, it was so nice to finally come up with a good one!
